Description
The Organic Chair, which was designed by Charles Eames and Eero Saarinen in 1940, is a comfortable small reading chair. As part of the New York MoMA’s “Organic Design in Home Furnishings” competition, its sculptural shape was ahead of its time and, owing to the lack of manufacturing techniques, never went into series production. It became possible to manufacture larger quantities of organically shaped seat shells in the 1950s and the first were chairs such as the well-known Eames Plastic Armchair and Eero Saarinen’s Tulip Chair.
